Good idea, but isn't the lid a tad hard? I am thinking of using a sponge like my kids do on their violins (and I did as a beginner before I got my shoulder rest). I have seen someone use a 1/8th shoulder rest with their wiplstix, and if the sponge weren't such an easy and light option, I think I might try that. After all my son will use one at some stage. I have already pinched his bow for my wiplstix!
