Took a wrong turn after a gig and a few pints the other day, luckily i found this signpost...

Culinary Investigations Ongoing....

There are a lot of new dining and culinary experiences out here on the sub-continent, this is one of the many odd types of crisps that I have experienced. Odd name but not a bad aftertaste. Apparently there are a few shops selling Tayto's but its about AUS$8 a bag (still tempting though). All the crisps over here are a bit weird though. So are the chocolates, there is a preservative in them which prevents them from melting on the shelves, makes everything taste a bit powdery. Even the Cadburys chocolates here are weird. So, anyone visiting in the future, you know what to pack:

12 pack chipsticks (or 2 x 6 packs)
6 pack monster munch (the original one, not the new "mega munch: immitations)
12 pack mega meanies
6 pack tayto cheese & onion
4 large bourneville bars
Assorted Barrys tea's (to be used as currency over here when the irish community takes over)
Proper Whisky (Jameson or Powers, not fussy)
Party pack of fun size mars bars and twixes etc 

My cycling route in the mornings

Well, this is pretty much the view from where we are staying at the moment. To the centre and left is a man made cove and past the footbridge linking picnic areas is about 5 nice restaurants (thai, korean, japanese, itallian and some other regular ones) whre people can sail up, park their boats and have a world of food to choose from. Its about a 3.5k cycle to where I work which is 3rd skyscraper to the right of the food bridge supporting column on the right side of the bridge . Takes anywhere from 7 to 10 mins depending on which route I take. I generally cycle home the long way (anywhere up to an hour) but if i'm hungry (or thirsty for some fine wines) i go the short way.

Jane made us a lovely dinner the other night, only thing was that this was the starter. Boiled baby octopus. Our reaction was pretty dramatic, Jane tried to reassure us by saying "Its OK, their brains have been removed", we went straight to the main course!!!!! 

Radio Ga ga

Last night, Adam, Jane and I called round to Radio Fremantle (a coastal suburb of Perth, big beaches etc.) and did an hours stint on this community radio station. And afterwards, in true rock'n'roll fashion, we rushed out of the studio, drove straight home and went to sleep. (hmmmmm i remember reading different in the rockstar instruction manual...) 

The Craic Hoors

Entertaining the locals

Well, again, in the true spirit of cultural relations i decided to escort a few people home.......eh.......musically. Jigs and reels all the way up to the main road then hailed a cab, wierdest pick-up that taxi driver ever did i'd say. 

Fireworks

This is part of the 30 minute long spectacular fireworks display which we had a front row seat for. 

Sunset over the swan river

This was our view of the sun setting right before the fireworks display began. All the fireworks were launched from 3 large barge's you can just about make out just to the right of where the sun is setting. 

Australia day

This is where we were sitting, us and over half a million people converged on the harbour, from 830am till 9pm, air shows, stunt helicoptors, boat races and then the grand finale, fireworks display. All finished at 9pm, at 920 the place was empty and there was NO rubbish anywhere, not even a crisp packet. People just took their own junk home! Looking out the office window this morning at where we were sitting and there isnt any sign that a festival took place at all. Amazing. 

Toss another shrimp on the barbie

Australia day here yesterday, so in true ozzie tradition we had some shrimp on the barbie and blew the froth off a few cold ones (thats ozzie for drinking beer). Here is Jayno and her Dad Denis starting off the BBQ (which are all gas powered and free and pretty much in every public place) for a days cooking. 

Blast from the past

All full of beer and divilment from the festivities of Australia day, what do the Irish lads do? Go back home and watch BOSCO! Still amazing the stuff that puppets buddies can do with a safety scissors and pipe cleaners! What was disturbing was that on the christmas special Frank kissed Grainne on the lips at the end of the show!!! End of season cliffhanger or what!!!!!

Perth Symphony Orchestra

Viola players.........


So, i tried to join a local orchestra yesterday, emailed the chairperson, got chatting to her over a couple of emails, all sounded good, nice program etc. Arranged to call around to rehersal tonight at 730 just off Glasgow Road. So I rocked up to work today with my map all ready to take a trip out there this afternoon. Out with the map, no sign of that road anywhere near Perth.

New wheels

Check out my new bike. I spraypainted it black the other day because it was a wierd orange and grey colour. The suspension is great for rolling over bumps, kerbs and kangaroos. It takes about 7 minutes to cycle along the coast road to work, havent seen any sharks yet.....
